Grade 1

Grade 1

Francais

I have always loved learning languages and I am excited to share this passion with your child(ren) too! I know that learning a second (or in many cases, a third) language has its challenges, so my approach is to make learning French as fun and as relatable as possible.

This year, we will be learning and practicing French vocabulary through a variety of activities. We will be doing a combination of read-aloud books, journal writing, whiteboard activities, games, and themed centres.

Each Friday, we will be doing "vive le vendredi" (fun Friday), where students will have a chance to catch up on unfinished work, then participate in centre activities and French games.

On your child's report card, you will note that there are four French strands that are evaluated each term : reading, writing, listening, and speaking. These will be evaluated using a combination of in-class activities, discussions, games, and projects/assignments.

Etudes Sociales

This year we will be focusing on two main units :

1. Ma communaute (my community) :

This first unit will be covered in the fall.  We will introduce concepts such as reading and deciphering maps, as well as identifying important buildings and community helpers. Students will work to identify important buildings in their community and the employees who work there. I am looking forward to getting to meet actual members of our community during this unit!

2. Mes roles et responsabilites (my roles and responsibilities) :

This second unit will be covered in the spring. We will focus on how our roles and responsibilities change as we grow and form relationships. For instance, our expectations as a baby would be different from our expectations as an adult.
